The primary purpose of the Emmanuel Health Board is to lead and oversee the non-profit Catholic Health Organizations on behalf of the owner, Spiritus Vitae. Spiritus Vitae holds the Emmanuel Health Board accountable to ensure the provision of exceptional holistic health care rooted in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.
Emmanuel Health Board Directors must consider what is in the best interest of the Emmanuel Health organization as a whole while providing fiduciary oversight and leadership for each and every facility governed by the Board. In effect, the Emmanuel Health Board is responsible for governance of both the individual facilities and the organization as a whole. Board Directors must bear this ‘both/and’ perspective in mind in their process of discernment and due diligence as a Board.
Two significant considerations in the creation of Emmanuel Health and the population of its Board of Directors are:
- Maintaining a strong, meaningful, and vibrant connection with the communities where Emmanuel Health serves.
- Drawing on the experience and expertise that resides in each community.
